Question about a salvage job in Mobile Bay that went from awful to amazing in one afternoon
We spent three days fighting zero vis and a busted pump, then found a 19th-century anchor worth over 8 grand. What's your best 'turnaround' story from a bad dive?

Found my dive knife after a whole weekend of moping around. It was wedged under a rock I must have kicked on the way up. Felt like winning the lottery for a second, but then it's just a knife. Same with @campbell.logan's mask. We get attached to our gear, but it's just stuff. That anchor story is cool, but let's be real, most "turnarounds" are just finding the thing you lost.

That's a great find, but anchors are usually measured by weight, not age. My worst dive turned around when I found my lost mask stuck to a coral head after an hour of searching.

Ever think the story behind an object is more important than its specs? I used to just see anchors as heavy gear until I found one crusted with coral that looked like it had been down there for decades. That thing had seen shipwrecks and storms, way cooler than just knowing it weighs 50 pounds. Finding your mask like that probably felt similar, like the ocean was giving back a piece of your own story.
