The guy at my LCS told me to stop bagging my silver age books with the flap on the bottom.

He pointed out that moisture and dust settle at the bottom of the bag, so having the flap on top lets it all collect right on the staple and cover edge, and since I switched that advice has kept my 1960s books from getting rusty and grimy over the last five years.

Funny you mention that, because I spent years bagging my books with the flap on the bottom without even thinking about it. Then I noticed my early X-Men books getting these little rust spots near the staples and it drove me crazy. Took me a while to figure out I was basically letting the dust settle right where it could do the most damage. Guess I learned the hard way that common sense isn't always so common when it comes to comic storage.

Totally had the same thing happen with my X-Men collection too.
