The collector who graded comics just for resale pissed me off at a convention last month
I was at a small con in Des Moines and this guy had a whole booth of slabbed books. Every single one was a 9.8 variant cover. He wouldn't let anyone open them to read. I asked why he even collects if he never looks at the pages. He said he doesn't collect, he invests. Kinda ruined the vibe for me. Has anyone else run into these flippers who treat comics like stocks?

Read somewhere that slabbed books actually trap moisture and cause long-term damage.

Three variants in a row on his display wall. All 9.8s. I asked if he even cracked one open to smell the paper and ink. He looked at me like I was crazy. So tell me, did this guy actually own a single book he cared about, or was it all just a tax write-off waiting to happen?
