Showerthought: Figuring out how to fix a water-damaged comic was weirdly satisfying
I left a window open during a rainstorm and a few drops hit a stack of my older books. One of them was a mid-90s X-Men issue I really liked, and the cover got a ripple in it. I looked up a method using a cool iron and some parchment paper, which sounded risky. But I gave it a shot, pressing gently over the damp spot. It took a few tries, but the wrinkle mostly came out. The colors didn't run or anything, which was a relief. Now that book sits in a bag and board, and I check the weather before I air out the room. It's a small win, but it feels good to have saved part of my collection.

Yeah, it's like that fix taps into something bigger. In my experience, getting a small win with a physical repair, like a book or a piece of furniture, builds up a weird kind of confidence. It makes the bigger, messier problems in life feel a bit more possible to handle. You start to see yourself as someone who can figure things out, instead of just replacing stuff. Saving that one comic probably taught you more than just how to use an iron.

Totally get that "weird kind of confidence" thing. I had a lamp that kept shorting out, and after watching a few videos, I figured out how to rewire the whole socket. Felt like a genius for a week, and it made me less scared to tackle the leaky faucet that came next.
