Indie comics are on the rise with fans
I see a lot more fans talking about smaller publisher books. The shop owner said sales for those have doubled.

Have you seen how hype indie comics are getting? My mate Chris was all about superhero movies, but then he picked up some indie graphic novel about a time-traveling barista. He showed me pages where the art was just mind-blowing, like hand-painted watercolors. Now he's always digging for more hidden gems at cons. He said the stories feel more risky and personal than the big studio stuff. Our local shop can't keep those books in stock anymore.

When the_riley talked about stories feeling risky and personal, that's what draws fans in. People are tired of safe, factory-made plots and want art with a real point of view. That hunger for authentic voice is what's actually pushing indie sales up.

In Chicago, most shops say indie sales are tiny compared to big publishers, so where's the real rise?
