My thrift store find turned out to be a 400 year old map of a city that never existed
I grabbed a rolled up parchment at a garage sale in Portland for $12 last month, and after cleaning off the grime I realized it shows a detailed harbor town called 'Asteria' that isn't on any real coast, so has anyone else stumbled across a fake historical map that was almost too convincing?

My uncle once paid $60 for what turned out to be a hand drawn chart of a river that ran through a town called 'Marrow' in Ohio, but the whole thing was fictional. The paper felt old and the ink had that faded look, but a museum guy later told him it was probably a mapmaker's joke from the 1800s. That find bothered me for years because it was so well done, and yours sounds even more convincing with the harbor detail. I hope you keep it and maybe get it appraised, because these weird fakes sometimes turn out to be worth more than the real ones.
