Serious question, who actually uses those expensive coffee subscription services?
I just canceled my $45 a month single-origin subscription after six months of disappointment. Every bag was roasted way too dark for my taste, even the light roasts tasted burnt. I'm sitting on about $270 worth of coffee I'll probably just give away. The whole point was to try new things, but it felt like getting the same over-roasted beans with different labels. Has anyone found a subscription that actually sends good light roast coffee, or should I just buy from local roasters directly?

Actually had a great experience with a subscription for a couple years now. They really nailed the light roasts, like this Ethiopian last month that tasted like blueberries. Maybe it's just about finding the right company that matches your taste. I mean, I tried a few before landing on one that worked. Going direct to a local roaster is a solid move too though.

That blueberry note in Ethiopian coffee is so specific when it's done right. How many different subscription services did you actually try before you found the one that worked? I feel like the first two I tried sent me nothing but dark, oily beans that tasted burnt, and it almost put me off the whole idea.

My brother got me a subscription for my birthday and it was all dark roast, felt like I was drinking charcoal for three months straight.
