My brother's CNC training is nothing like mine was.

When I began, we used punched tape and dialed in offsets by hand. He learns on a laptop with virtual models that show errors before cutting. I do not get the same thrill from a screen, but it saves so much time and scrap. Sharing this trade with him feels different now.

Totally agree with this. Tried the new way last week and honestly prefer it now.

I used to be all about the old school way, the hands-on feel. But after seeing the new software catch a major mistake I would have made, it changed my mind. It just makes sense to fix things on a screen before you wreck material. Patricia905 has a point about it being better even without the thrill. The goal is still a perfect part, and this gets you there with less waste and cussing.
