Replaced 6 gas mows a week with one push reel mower, and my neighbors finally stopped asking why
Two springs ago I was burning through about $40 in gas every week mowing 6 lawns for my landscaping clients in Tacoma, plus the noise complaints from one lady on the corner. I switched to a push reel mower for the smaller yards last April, and even though it takes me 15 extra minutes per lawn, I have not bought a gas can since. Has anyone else made the switch and found a reel mower that actually handles taller grass, or do you just keep the gas one for the overgrown jobs?
$40 a week in gas for 6 lawns seems kinda high to me honestly. That's like 10 gallons unless Tacoma prices are way worse than I remember. A push reel mower is fine for a manicured yard but the second you hit anything over 4 inches it just folds the grass over instead of cutting it, so you end up going over the same spot three times anyway. Do the math on that extra 15 minutes per lawn times your hourly rate and see if you're actually saving anything or just trading gas money for your own time. If the smaller yards work out then cool, but keeping the gas one for the jungle jobs sounds like the right call.
