Serious question, is a 1 to 10 creosote scale actually useful or just a scare tactic?
Had a client in Lansing hand me a printout from a home inspector that graded their flue at a 2 out of 10, and she was ready to rip out a liner that passed a sweep and a camera check the month before. My view is the scale gives us a shared word for what we see, but a number on paper makes folks panic over stuff we would just brush and watch. Other side of it is that any label gets a homeowner to actually call somebody, which beats the alternative of waiting until spring. Where do you all land, do you quote the grade or keep it out of the write-up?
