Tried to make a $4 pantry dinner for my 3 kids and the smoke alarm gave it a 1 star review
Last Tuesday I was digging through the pantry at 5:45pm trying to feed three hungry kids with what was left, which was a half box of penne, a can of crushed tomatoes, and some sad garlic. I dumped it all in one pot like a genius and walked away to deal with a diaper, and by the time I came back the bottom had welded itself to the pan and the whole kitchen smelled like burnt regret. I scraped off the top layer, added a splash of milk and a fistful of shredded cheddar, and told the kids it was 'pizza pasta,' which they actually ate, so I guess crisis averted? What's your go to save when a one pot meal goes sideways, because I need a backup plan for next Tuesday.
I read somewhere that a splash of chicken broth and a pat of butter can bring a scorched pot back from the dead, works way better than milk. My backup is always a couple eggs scrambled into the mess and call it breakfast for dinner.
