Vent: Took me 11 days to figure out why my Cocoa Pebbles milk tasted off, and it was my fridge the whole time
I keep a little notebook where I write down every bowl, the cereal, how long it sat, and what the milk tastes like at the end, and about two weeks ago my Cocoa Pebbles milk started coming out weird. Not spoiled, just flat. The chocolate flavor was there but the sweetness had this dull edge to it, like it had been sitting out on a counter for an hour instead of 3 minutes in my bowl. I blamed the cereal first and bought 3 new boxes from 2 different stores, same result. Then I blamed the milk and switched brands twice, no change. I even started timing myself eating, thinking I was somehow leaving the bowl too long, but I timed it at 6 minutes flat every single morning. Finally on day 11 I pulled out the thermometer and checked my fridge, and it was sitting at 44 degrees instead of 38. Turns out my door seal had a slow leak and everything in there was running warm, which made the milk taste thin and muted against the cocoa. New seal cost me $32 and my Pebbles milk is back to that thick sweet chocolate at the bottom of the bowl. Has anyone else had their fridge slowly drift warm without any obvious sign, and did it mess with your milk too?
