My neighbor's 2-minute demo fixed my flaky seasoning problem

Had a pan that kept shedding flakes no matter how many times I reseasoned it. My neighbor saw me scrubbing it on the porch and laughed, said I was being way too rough with the chainmail. He showed me his routine: hot water, soft sponge, and a quick stovetop dry with a tiny bit of oil. Tried it that same night and the seasoning has been solid for 3 weeks now. Anyone else find that less aggressive cleaning actually builds a better layer over time?

Know that feeling all too well, I wrecked a decent pan doing the same thing. Switched to warm water and a soft cloth after a buddy yelled at me too, and three months later it's smoother than ever. Sometimes the lazy way really is the right way.
