My cast iron pan started a small fire at a campsite near Bend, Oregon because I left it on the coals with bacon grease.

Now I always pour the hot grease into a metal cup before I even think about moving the pan.

Smart move with the metal cup.

Reminds me of a guy who brought a metal flask to a festival. They let him keep it but made him drink the contents first.
