Found out my grandma's rusty pan is worth $200

I was cleaning out her basement last weekend. Found this old rusty #8 skillet buried under some boxes. Looked like a lost cause. I almost tossed it in the scrap pile. Then my buddy said to check the markings on the back. It's a vintage Griswold from the 1930s. Go figure. Took me 20 minutes of scrubbing with salt and oil to see the logo clear as day. Now I'm scared to mess it up seasoning it right. Anyone else ever find a gem hiding under rust?

Oh man, that's a killer find! I totally feel you on the nerves about messing up the seasoning. I've been there with a rusty Wagner I pulled out of an old farmhouse - spent an hour just scrubbing with vinegar and salt before I even dared to oil it up. Your mileage may vary, but I'd say take it slow with the seasoning process, maybe a few thin coats of flaxseed oil baked in at 400 degrees. It's scary when old cookware that valuable finally comes clean, but trust yourself, you got this.

Funny enough, the first time I tried seasoning a skillet I burned the oil so bad it looked like I was trying to make charcoal instead of cookware... ended up having to sand the whole thing down and start over. Flaxseed oil is definitely the way to go though, I've had good luck with it after that disaster. Just make sure you wipe off almost all the oil before you put it in the oven, that's the trick I messed up the first time.
