Can we talk about the guy who said soap would wreck my pan?

My uncle swore dish soap would strip 3 years of seasoning off my skillet, so I scrubbed mine with Dawn and a nylon brush to test it and it was totally fine after a quick wipe of oil. Anyone else have a family member pass down a cast iron rule that turned out to be nonsense?
