My dad's 'tape speed trick' cost me a rare mix, learn from my fail
Dad swore recording at half speed then playing back normal made tapes sound 'warmer'. Tried it on a 1987 Maximum Rocknroll mix I got off a forum trader, and now the vocals sound like a choir of gremlins. Anyone else get handed boomer audio wisdom that's just flat out wrong?

Man, that sucks. Half speed never makes anything sound better. It just makes everything deep and weird. Your dad probably got that from some old hifi magazine back in the day. Tape hiss is tape hiss, no trick fixes that. Hope you can track down another copy, that mix is gone for good now.
