Shoutout to using a heat gun on stubborn tack strips
Was pulling up some old carpet in a 1950s house last week and the tack strips were glued down like concrete. Tried a heat gun for a few seconds on each nail head and they popped right out without splitting the wood. Has anyone else tried this on really old installations?

Switched to a heat gun myself after losing too many crowbars to old glue jobs.

Yeah but @seanh91, how do you even know when to stop with the heat? I tried one once and ended up bubbling the paint on a doorframe. Like sure the glue came off easy but then I had this whole mess of damaged finish to deal with. Was there a trick you picked up or did you just learn the hard way like I did?
