Rant: I always thought you needed a ton of adhesive for carpet tiles
Read a spec sheet from a big job in Austin that said to use only 4 ounces per square yard. Found out using less actually helps them lay flatter and reduces bumps. Anyone else cut back on glue after seeing the factory numbers?

Honestly that spec sheet is spot on. We used to slather it on too and had the same bump issue, but cutting back made a huge difference. Took a while to break the old habit though.

Man I have been there. Stood over a pile of glue like it was going to save my life. But @flores.tessa is right, once you try the thin coat it's hard to go back. Only callbacks I've had from that method were from me being sloppy, not the glue amount. Guess my idea of "sturdy" was really just "wasteful with a trowel".

Slather it on" makes it sound like we were using buckets of the stuff. I get using less, but four ounces seems crazy thin. Had a guy on a job last year follow a spec like that and we had tiles curling at the seams within a month. Maybe it works in a perfect, climate controlled office, but not on a real floor with foot traffic. Just feels like asking for a callback.
