Overheard a GC saying seams should be invisible, and I had to laugh

Was on a job site in Columbus last week, finishing a 12 by 16 bedroom with a berber loop, and the general contractor told the homeowner that a good carpet installer can hide all seams completely. I looked at him and asked if he had ever dealt with pattern matching on a tight weave, because that's just not how it works. He went quiet when I pointed out that even with a power stretcher and the right seaming iron, you're at the mercy of the backing and the lighting angles. I think a lot of folks outside the trade see those glossy showroom photos and forget we're working with real material that shifts and shadows. I've done over 200 rooms and I still tell clients upfront that seams will be there, just hopefully not noticeable. Does anyone else have a favorite way to explain the limits of seamless carpet to customers who expect magic?
