Actually, that ache might be a good sign (like your body getting stronger from real work). Discomfort just means you're building up the hands you need for that kind of job. It's part of the deal with tough physical work.

Building up the hands? That sounds painful, not just uncomfortable. My cousin did construction and his hands were wrecked for months.
