Read in a 1970s trade manual that a standard 2x4 used to be 2 inches by 4 inches, not 1.5 by 3.5. Blew my mind a little.

That shrinking lumber thing is just the tip of the iceberg. It feels like everything gets a little smaller or cheaper over time while the price stays the same. You see it with bags of chips, candy bars, even the amount of product in a cleaning bottle. They just quietly give you less for your money and hope you don't notice.

Yeah that "quietly give you less" line from lee.jessica hits hard. It's not just stuff you buy, it's services too. My streaming subscription keeps costing the same but the catalog feels emptier every year, like they're slowly taking shows away. Makes you wonder what else we're paying full price for but only getting part of the deal.
