Miter saw dust collection used to be a guessing game for me

Back in 2015 when I was doing trim work in Portland, I just pointed a box fan out the garage door and prayed the dust would follow it. My lungs felt like a chimney sweep's holiday party, and the homeowner's white carpet looked like a dog had shed drywall. Then I got my hands on a used Festool with that CT vac, and honestly I thought the guy selling it was exaggerating about the difference. The bag barely fills after a whole bedroom of baseboard, and I can actually see my layout lines while I'm cutting. What finally pushed me over was watching the haze settle on my coffee mug one too many times. Now I rig up a simple Y connector so I can run the hose to my circular saw too, no expensive adapters needed. Has anyone else built a budget dust setup that beats the fancy store kits?
