Heard a guy at the lumberyard talking about his tape measure
I was picking up some pine for a built-in and this older carpenter was telling the cashier his Stanley Powerlock from 1998 finally gave out. He said the spring broke, but he'd kept it because the numbers were still perfectly clear and the hook was tight. It made me realize I go through a cheap tape every year, always blaming the tool. Maybe I should just buy one good one and take care of it. How long has your main tape measure actually lasted you guys?

Stolen" just sounds like a different way of saying broken to me.

Yeah it's a totally different feeling when something's gone for good. Like a broken phone you can maybe fix, but a stolen one is just out there somewhere with your stuff on it. That loss of control is the worst part. You keep wondering where it is and who has it, which is way more stressful than just dealing with a cracked screen.
