Finding my grandpa's old hand plane made me think about patience in our work
I was cleaning out the shed and found my grandpa's rusty hand plane. It made me realize how much slower and more careful things were back then. Do you guys miss that kind of pace sometimes?

Used to hate slow work, called it a waste of time. Then I had to hand-sand a table. Took forever, but the wood felt different after. Like I knew every inch. Now I get it. Sharpening a pencil by hand does the same thing, makes you pay attention.

Yeah no I get it now. I used to think any job done slow was just bad work. Then I tried cutting a fallen branch with a hand saw instead of a chainsaw. Took all morning, my arm hurt, but I saw every cut mark, every change in the grain. Same with a pencil, that stupid plastic sharpener just eats it. Doing it by hand, you feel when the point is right. It changes how you see the thing you're working on.

Come on, that's just praising wasted time. In real life, time is money, and hand-sanding for hours is not wise. A power sander does it fast with the same result. Feeling the wood might be nice, but it doesn't make the job worth the wait. Hand-sharpening a pencil is just as slow for no real gain. Why waste time when you can get it done quick?
