Caught flak for using a nail gun on trim - old school guy lost it on me

I was trimming out a kitchen remodel in Portland last Thursday and this 60 year old carpenter walked through and saw me using a 16 gauge nailer on some poplar casing. He said I was ruining the trade and that real carpenters hand nail everything. I get that hand nailing looks cleaner if you fill the holes right, but a nail gun saves me about 20 minutes per window. Which side do you guys lean on for finish work - speed or tradition? Has anyone else had an old timer lecture them on site?

Nah, I'd probably be the old guy getting told to kick rocks.
