PSA: I asked for a 15% raise at my nursing job and got offered a promotion instead
So I've been on night shift for about two years now, and I finally worked up the nerve to ask for a raise during my annual review. I had my numbers ready, showed how I'd taken on extra duties, and asked for a 15% bump. My manager listened, then said they couldn't approve that specific raise, but offered me a charge nurse role on a different floor. It's a promotion, but it comes with way more responsibility and only a 5% pay increase initially. I mean, part of me feels like I should take any upward move, but another part feels like I got sidetracked from my original goal of just being paid more for the job I'm already doing well. Has anyone else had a raise request turn into a totally different career conversation? What would you do?

Classic management move right there. They heard "more money" and offered you more work for less cash than you asked for. Sounds like they're trying to solve their staffing problem on the cheap by dangling a fancy title. A promotion that only pays 5% more for a ton of extra stress is basically a punishment. You went in asking for a raise and got handed a whole new job instead. Honestly feels like they just sidestepped your whole point.
