Vent: a cook at a church potluck in Akron showed me the crushed cracker trick and now my canned soup feels fancy
Last Saturday I was at a potluck at a church over on Kenmore Blvd in Akron, and a lady named Doreen was watching me heat up two cans of tomato soup on the stove. She grabbed a sleeve of saltines, crushed them up in a ziplock, and dumped maybe half a cup right into the pot while it was still simmering. I thought she was messing with me, but it made the soup thick and almost creamy instead of watery, and nobody at the table guessed it came out of a can. Now I keep a bag of crushed crackers in the pantry next to my canned stuff and use it on everything. What else do you all toss in canned soup that you swear by?
