My buddy's take on tent stakes made me feel stupid

Dude was like 'you bring 12 stakes for a 6 person tent?' and just walked off. I've been overpacking stakes for 5 years because one broke on a trip to Big Sur. Made me realize I never actually tested if I could get by with less.

You ever notice how some people just have this way of making you feel like you been doing everything wrong? I feel that. I used to bring two extra tent poles for a three season tent because I bent one on a windy night once. Now I just roll with a full stash of spare stakes for every trip. It's not always about what you need, it's about peace of mind for me.

Ha, @wright.drew you're speaking my language. I mean, I used to carry a whole backup stove because I was scared of mine failing. Now I just pack three different ways to start a fire just in case. It's like, yeah, maybe I'm overdoing it, but when you've been caught out in the rain with a broken pole, you learn. Peace of mind is real, even if my pack weighs an extra five pounds for it.
