Just realized why my tent always felt damp in the morning
Camped at Harriman State Park last weekend and woke up to condensation inside my tent. Turns out I was pitching it too close to the lake, no wind to dry off the fly.

Go upwind next time even if it means hiking a little further from the water. I used to pitch right on the shoreline and woke up soaked every single morning. Now I look for a spot with a good breeze that'll hit the tent fly from at least one side. Also try staking the fly out tighter so the air can move between the inner tent and the rainfly. That alone cut my dampness by like half.

It's funny how that same principle shows up in so many other things. Like, I started doing the same with my firewood last year - keeping it off the ground and letting air flow underneath instead of piling it in a wet corner. Made a huge difference. Even with my backpack, I used to just stuff everything in and wonder why my clothes got musty. Now I actually leave it open and unzipped between trips. Little things like airflow and positioning seem to matter way more than people give them credit for, whether you're camping or just trying not to have your gear smell like a basement.
