A guy at REI in Denver told me to size up my boots and now my heels are wrecked
Last month I was buying new hiking boots at the REI in Denver and this employee told me to go a full size up because my feet would swell on long hikes. I listened to him and bought the bigger pair for $180. After a 12 mile hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, my heels were sliding so bad I got two blisters the size of quarters. Should I go back to my normal size or is there a different fix for the swelling thing?
Sizing up only works if you also change how you lace them, like a heel lock where the laces cross back through the top eyelets. Without that the extra room just lets your foot slide forward and back. Try the heel lock lacing first before you drop $180 again, it might save the boots you already have.
