That cheap UV filter I mocked is now on every lens I own

For years I told customers a $15 filter was a waste. Then last spring I dropped a 50mm f/1.8 on concrete in Portland and the filter cracked while the front element stayed mint. Replacement glass cost me $12. Since then I put basic filters on all my shop loaners and rentals. The scratch rate on front elements went way down. Anybody else flip on this after a specific incident like that?
