Stop telling people a CLA will fix a sticky aperture, half the FD lenses I see just need the blades cleaned

Cleaned the oil off a 50mm f1.4 with a $6 bottle of naptha on Tuesday and it snaps shut like new, while the three lenses customers brought in after a "CLA" from a guy in Phoenix still hang open at f16, so can somebody please tell me why dry-firing the blades got turned into gospel advice?
