Pro tip: That stiff focus ring isn't broken, it just needs the right lube

I always thought a tight focus meant the mechanism was shot. Then I tried a tiny drop of synthetic grease on the threads... it worked like magic. Most people use oil, but that just grabs dust and gums up faster. Grease is the way to go for smooth movement.

Lmao, I feel called out. I spent weeks thinking my old 50mm was just destined for the trash because the focus was so stiff. I actually tried using olive oil once in a panic, which, big surprise, made it attract every bit of dust in the county. It was like trying to turn a gear made of sand. Now I know, but my kitchen-grade lens lube experiment is a pretty dumb highlight in my photo journey.
