I finally lost my cool with my mom moving my repair stuff

She cleaned my bench and now I can't locate my tiny screwdrivers. This happens every time she visits and it throws off my whole workflow. How do you deal with family not getting your work space?

Actually relying on a small disaster feels like waiting for a bad accident to happen lol. It might work sometimes but it's a pretty risky way to teach someone a lesson. What if they mess up something that can't be replaced, or even hurt themselves? Setting a clear rule before anything gets broken or lost is way safer. It's about respect for your space, not just learning after something gets ruined. A quick chat when they visit saves a lot of headache later.

My dad used to reorganize my toolbox until he borrowed my soldering iron and melted his favorite tie. Now he asks before touching anything. Why do they always think they're helping?

Used to think that sort of reorganization was just pointless meddling. Hearing about your dad's tie meeting the soldering iron shifted my perspective. It proves that direct experience of the consequences works better than any complaint. Now I get that they often assume they're helping without seeing the potential for messing things up. That melted tie probably taught him more respect for your tools than any talk ever could. Sometimes it takes a small disaster to establish proper boundaries.
