Shoutout to the guy who told me to buy the $50 'universal' coax crimper

I wasted a whole afternoon trying to get a clean crimp on some RG6 quad shield before I realized the thing was basically a toy. Lost about $50 and half a day's pay on that call. Anyone else have a tool that looked good online but was junk in real life?

Honestly, that universal tool probably just needed the right die set. Those cheap crimpers often come with a bunch of plastic adapters that never work right. You gotta find the exact metal die for your cable type, even if it costs extra. It's a pain, but the tool itself might be okay once you get the right part for the job. Throwing the whole thing out seems like a waste after one bad try.

Nah, that tool is trash from the start. A real crimper works right out of the box with the parts it comes with. If you have to hunt down extra dies just to make it function, it was never a good buy. You're just throwing more money at a problem. That fifty bucks is already gone, cut your losses.
