Just realized that pre-bending rigid conduit before installation cuts down on swear words
I learned this the hard way and it helps a lot, but I'm curious if there's a trick for doing it without special tools.

Nah, you lose all the flexibility doing it beforehand. What if your measurements are off by a quarter inch? Then you're stuck with a piece you can't use. Bending it in place lets you fit it to the exact space, especially around weird corners or existing pipes. Half the time the pre bent stuff gets banged up during transport anyway. The swear words are just part of the learning curve, makes you double check your marks.

Everyone's missing the safety side of it. Pre bending a bunch of pieces in the shop means way less time crammed in a crawl space or balanced on a ladder trying to muscle a bend. Less tired, less rushed, way fewer chances to slip and get hurt. That quarter inch you're worrying about is nothing compared to a busted knee from losing your balance.

That bit about swearing being part of the learning curve is so true. I see it all the time with people clinging to the hard way of doing something, just because that's how they learned. Sometimes a little prep work saves a ton of headache, but old habits die hard.
