That expensive Blumotion hardware I was against finally won me over

I spent about $200 on soft-close drawer slides for a kitchen job last month. Always thought they were a gimmick and just another thing to break later. But the client insisted and I figured it was their money. After installing them and hearing how quiet the close is, I get it now. The mechanism actually feels solid, not cheap plastic. Has anyone else had a change of heart on a hardware upgrade you initially laughed off?

After installing them and hearing how quiet the close is, I get it now" - that's exactly what my buddy said after he did his kitchen last spring. He was the biggest skeptic, always joking that soft-close was for people who slam drawers too hard (you know, like toddlers). Then he helped his sister install a set and called me that night all embarrassed, said it felt like closing a bank vault door or something. Now he's got them on every drawer in his house and even added them to the bathroom vanity. Funny how one install can flip you from hater to believer, huh?

Honestly, your buddy describing it like closing a bank vault door is perfect. That's the exact feeling, that solid, dampened thud is just so much more satisfying than the cheap clatter you get from regular hinges. It's wild how such a small change makes you never want to go back.

Bought a pair of cheap soft-close hinges for a closet door just to test them out. Ended up replacing all the hinges in my house the next weekend. They're just so satisfying to use.
