That black walnut slab from a barn in Ohio gave us a full week of misery

We picked up a 10 foot slab for a dining table commission, thought the surface cracks were manageable, but after jointing it opened up like a canyon and we spent 4 days filling and re-cutting before the client told us they wanted a live edge anyway, has anyone else had a gorgeous piece fight them that hard?

Honestly, that stings so bad. We had a similar thing with a cherry log once, spent a whole weekend fighting a check that kept running on us, and then the customer asked for a natural bark edge like it was no big deal. Ngl, I wanted to scream into the planer. But at least you found out before you finished the whole top, that's a small win even if it doesn't feel like it right now.
