Just a warning, my floating shelf project ended with a crash because of bad wall anchors.

My neighbor went through something similar last month trying to hang a heavy curtain rod. He used those basic expansion anchors and the whole thing ripped out of the drywall at 3 AM, sounded like a gunshot. Ended up with a huge hole and dust everywhere, had to patch the whole section. Makes you realize how much trust we put in little pieces of plastic.

What kind of anchors did you try using? Were they the plastic ones that come with the shelf kit, or did you get separate ones? I've seen those little plastic plugs fail if the wall is drywall and there's any real weight. Did you check what your wall is made of before picking them? The weight rating on the anchor package matters a lot too, way more than the shelf's listed limit. A lot of people miss that part until things come crashing down.

Honestly, that reminds me of my buddy who tried to hang a TV mount with just drywall anchors. Whole thing came down during a big game.
