Hot take: clamping a straightedge to the bench to shim cabinet doors actually worked
I had a run of 6 shaker doors on a maple face frame that sat proud at the top corner by about 3/32, and after fighting hinges for an hour I clamped a 4 ft aluminum straightedge across the frame to check the twist. Found the face frame itself was out, not the doors, so I shimmed the low corner before rehanging everything. Anyone else check the frame first instead of blaming the hinges every time?
Feel that pain so hard, chasing hinges when the frame is the real problem is the worst way to burn an afternoon. Good on you for checking the frame first, that trick with the straightedge is going in my back pocket.
