Appreciation post: the $4 sponge filter from Bill's in Tulsa that saved my 2 gallon bowl
Everyone on here keeps saying you need a real canister filter for anything under 5 gallons, but I stopped believing that after my 2 gallon shrimp bowl sat at 0 ammonia for 6 months straight with just a sponge filter and a pothos cutting. I picked up the sponge at Bill's Aquatics in Tulsa for $4 after a guy there laughed at me for asking about a HOB setup, and honestly the shrimp have never looked better. Flow is low, plants eat the waste, and I have not touched the thing since March. Does anyone else run just a sponge on their nano tanks, or am I the only one who thinks the filter aisle is mostly a money trap?
