Skipping my streaming memberships for a month really helped my wallet
I turned off all my video streaming accounts to try something different. I spent more time with board games I already owned and visited friends. Checking my bank app, I noticed I had saved around seventy dollars. It showed me how those monthly charges quietly eat up cash. What's one subscription you could live without for a while?

My friend Lisa canceled her gym membership in January. She started using workout videos on free sites and going for runs outside. After three months, she had saved over a hundred dollars and felt just as fit. She realized she was paying for convenience she didn't really need.

That's a really good point from @michaelsmith. It feels like a lot of monthly subscriptions are like that, where you're just paying for the idea of something you don't actually use much. Spotting where that happens can save so much cash.

Last spring, my roommate got a meal kit subscription. She believed it would simplify dinners, but she ended up skipping deliveries most weeks. @michaelsmith's point about unused convenience hits home here. She was basically funding a fancy trash service with all the unused ingredients. Canceling it freed up cash for things she actually enjoys, like concert tickets.
