My cousin in Ohio swore by cash envelopes for his boat fund. It really does force you to see where the money goes.

Cash envelopes are a hassle for any big purchase. My buddy tried that for a down payment and lost a whole envelope in his truck. Digital tracking is just safer and easier.

Honestly, that cash envelope method sounds like a mess waiting to happen. Tried it for a vacation fund and just ended up with a drawer full of random cash. Setting up a separate savings account online worked way better for me.
