Shoutout to the hostel clerk in Lisbon who killed my 20 lb backpack plan
I used to be all in on one big backpack for a 2 week trip, packed it to 20 lbs, and thought I was being smart. The clerk at my hostel in Lisbon watched me dig through it for 5 minutes to find a charger and just said, "you carry too much to be cheap." She was right, I was paying $15 in checked bag fees on a budget airline and still hauling stuff I never wore. Next trip I switched to a 30L carry-on and a small day bag I keep under the seat, and I cut about $40 with no bag fees and way less stress. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my old 55L pack, does anyone actually use theirs anymore or is it just closet space?
