Booked a flight through a third party site to save $50, ended up paying $200 extra for seat selection and baggage.

It wasn't until I saw the family next to me at the gate in Denver pay $30 total for their bags that I realized I should have just booked direct with the airline, so who else has learned this lesson the hard way?

Man I gotta say I see it totally different. I book third party all the time and save way more than $50 usually like $150-200 on flights to Florida or Texas. The trick is knowing what you're getting into before you click buy. Southwest is the easiest since bags are free anyway, and I never check a bag if I can help it. Plus some third party sites like Expedia or Priceline let you bundle with a hotel and it actually works out cheaper even with the fees. You just gotta read the fine print instead of rushing through checkout.

Honestly I feel you on this one. A lot of people get burned by third party sites and then swear them off forever, but it's all about being careful. I've had good luck with Expedia bundles too when I actually sit down and read what I'm buying. The savings can be real if you know you're not gonna change your flight or need extra stuff. It's not for everyone and I get why people hate it, but it's not always a scam like some folks make it out to be.
