Update: Saw my cousin throw out leftover rice because it was 'old' after one day
That stuff is perfect for fried rice and keeps fine for like 4 days, you're just tossing money in the bin. What other cheap leftovers do people waste without realizing?

My roommate does this with pasta all the time, and it drives me nuts. Day-old pasta is the best for a quick pasta salad or just reheating with extra sauce. I've seen people toss out whole pots of soup after two days, which is such a shame because that stuff only gets better. It feels like a basic cooking skill that got lost somewhere.

My grandma used to say a pot of beans was a three day meal minimum. Day one with cornbread, day two as bean soup, day three refried for tacos. @the_fiona is right about soup, it's often better the next day. I read a whole article about how restaurants plan for leftovers, like turning roasted chicken into stock or yesterday's bread into croutons. People at home just see a container and think it's trash.
