I finally gave up on making my own pasta sauce from scratch
Last Tuesday in my kitchen, I tried to make a big batch of marinara to save money, but I used too much garlic and it turned out super bitter. I was about to throw it all out, but my neighbor Mike suggested adding a whole teaspoon of sugar and a can of crushed tomatoes to balance it. It actually worked and saved the meal. Has anyone else had a cheap recipe go wrong and found a simple fix like that?

Can my cooking disasters count as a hobby?

My last attempt at chili looked like a science experiment gone wrong, so I feel you, @jadeg81. I mean, if you're spending that much time and money on ingredients just to make something inedible, it's definitely an activity. Maybe we're just pioneers in abstract food art. I have a pot in my garage that's permanently stained from my "caramelized onion incident," which is basically a trophy at this point.

Is it a hobby if you're just bad at cooking?
