Hot take: Canned beans are my new budget hero

I always thought canned beans were gross and too salty. My friend cooked a stew with them that tasted amazing. She taught me to wash them first and season well. Now I make cheap meals with beans every week. My wallet thanks me big time.

Okay but the real pro move is saving the bean liquid. That starchy goop they're talking about? It's called aquafaba. You can whip it up like egg whites for vegan mayo or meringues. Total game changer if you're trying to cut food waste.

Wait, does that starchy goop mess with the texture too?

You're right about rinsing them, but that thick liquid in the can isn't just salt. It's mostly starchy bean goop that makes sauces look muddy. Washing gets rid of that for a cleaner taste. If the salt worries you, just look for the low-sodium cans on the shelf.
