The $25 library card vs the $200 sky subscription, I know which one wins now

Last winter I was dead set on getting into stargazing. Saw all these photos online and figured I needed a real telescope, the whole setup. Found one used for $200 and almost pulled the trigger. Then a buddy said, why not start with the library's telescope loan program? Sure enough, our local branch has one you can check out for two weeks at a time. I've used it 4 times since February and I'm learning way more than I would've throwing money at gear I don't understand. The library card was free, the telescope was free, and I got to test it before committing. Has anyone else found a surprise free rental at their library, like tools or cameras or something?
